College of Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of Arts, Economics. Minor in Military Science and Ecosystem Science and Policy. Class of 2016.
Where are you from?
I am from America's home town, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Are you a scholarship recipient?
I am currently at the University of Miami with a four year Army ROTC full tuition scholarship.
Explain why you chose the University of Miami as the preferred school for you to attend.
Coming from the Northeast and living there my entire life, I really wanted to use my time in college as an opportunity to explore a new part of the country. At the same time, I also wanted to direct my future towards a military career. I soon learned of the Army ROTC program at UM, which is based out of FIU, and I was immediately hooked. UM had everything that I wanted and I was fortunate enough to earn the scholarship which in turn enabled my dream to become a reality.
Describe your fondest memory or experience as a student.
At the UF vs. UM football game this year three other Army ROTC cadets and I had the opportunity to be in the color guard for the national anthem. I was assigned to present the nations colors and command the color guard team and it was an experience I will never forget. The crowd was electic and I was overwhelmingly proud of my country and my university. I will treasure that memory forever.
What do you want your legacy to be as a Miami Hurricane?
Every day I try to be a better man that I was the day before. As a Miami Hurricane, I just hope to leave this University having inspired someone to work harder and achieve more than they thought they could.
Why is it important for alumni to give back to the University of Miami?
It is vital to the everyday functions of this University for alumni to give back. They are role models and guide current students in the right direction. Maintaining top of the line facilities and helping students attend the University of Miami depends on alumni giving back as well.
Who or what is your favorite professor or course?
Dr. Petit-Frere stands out as my favorite professor. As an economics teacher, keeping students awake in the class in not an easy task, but he made every class entertaining and well rounded. All around he is just a great professor and a great Hurricane.
Did you study abroad?
I am not able to study abroad due to my commitments to Army ROTC, but I was fortunate enough to go to the Army's Air Assault School the summer following freshman year. It was a humbling and character-building experience that enhanced my military bearing and helped to develop my leadership skills.
What are you career aspirations or where will you be working once you graduate?
After graduation I will be a commissioned officer in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. My ultimate goal is to fly helicopters as an Active Duty Aviation Officer and to serve my country to the best of my ability.
